Focus On Olathe Schools:

These programs, hosted by Communications Director Maggie Kolb, touch on a variety of programs and events taking place across the district.

  • Millbrooke Elementary School will open in August 2014. Principal Stephanie Dancso takes viewers on a video tour of the building.
  • Olathe Advanced Technical Center provides real-world experiences at the high school level. The building houses the Automotive Technology, Automotive Collision, and Welding programs.
  • Rachel's Challenge, a program promoting kindness toward others, included presentations to students and the community, as well as student leadership training.
  • Dennis Burkett, a 2011 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching recipient, teaches at Olathe South High School. This video takes a look inside the award-winner's classroom.
  • Field Day 2012 explains there's more to this traditional outdoor exercise than just fun in the sun. This online video is presented in high definition.
  • Olathe Youth Congress 2011-12 shows how delegates propose and debate resolutions they will work on throughout the school year.
  • Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a look into an exciting program that is helping students achieve success now and into the future.
  • Kansas Teacher of the Year features Olathe East High School teacher Tiffany Richard, the 2012 award recipient.

A variety of special programs featuring Olathe Public Schools activities, issues and current events including:

  • Chief Financial and Operations Officer John Hutchison helps clarify information regarding Kansas school finance.
  • Any student interested in participating in Youth Court will be interested in learning about the various roles of this program.
  • Learn more about the Professional Development School collaboration between Olathe Public Schools and Emporia State University that began in 1993.
  • Voters can learn a great deal about the growth, safety and security, technology, and aging facility issues that would be addressed with the proposed 2013 bond election.
  • Representatives from Youth Congress create a public service announcement about the hazards of texting while driving.
  • Join science students at Prairie Trail Middle School as they learn from Dr. Steve Hawley what it's like to be a space shuttle astronaut.
  • First Year is a real-life documentary that follows the ups and downs of new teacher Jennifer McNickle through her first year of teaching at Arbor Creek Elementary School. This 68-minute program offers insight into a variety of factors that affect the professional and personal life of a person breaking into the field of education.
