Trouble-Free Playgrounds
Olathe Public Schools have made the commitment to change our thinking about recess at the elementary level. Many of our schools have incorporated Curt Hinson's "Six Steps to a Trouble-Free Playground."
The trouble-free playground program uses six steps to help make the playground and school trouble free. The program includes a variety of games and activities, as well as management and discipline techniques, that not only help diminish common playground problems, but also help improve overall school motivation and behavior.
This program helps to: reduce occurrences of bullying; build character, respect and responsibility among children; and helps to create a safe environment on the playground and in the classroom. While schools may vary in how trouble-free playground concepts are applied, the goals are the same: to increase physical activity and to make recess a positive part of the learning experience.
