Five Olathe Seniors Named Presidential Scholar Candidates
Jan. 27, 2012 ~ Candidates in the prestigious Presidential Scholars program have been announced. Five Olathe School District seniors were named candidates in the 2012 program. Those students are:
- Allison Adams from Olathe East High School
- Rachael Dennis from Olathe East High School
- Aaron Holthus from Olathe East High School
- Lauren Lee from Olathe Northwest High School
- Robert Winslow from Olathe South High School
Inclusion in the program is one of the highest honors for graduating high school seniors. Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities.
The candidates were selected for their exceptional performance on either the College Board SAT or the ACT assessments. Further consideration is based on students' essays, self-assessments, activity descriptions, recommendations and transcripts.
A panel will review these submissions and select 500 semifinalists in early April. The final selection will be made in May. One young man and one young woman will be chosen from each state.
