Summer School Enrollment Begins Soon

Feb. 2, 2012 ~ The district's summer school programs have something to offer for students in all grades, from kindergarten through high school. The variety of classes offers something for students with varied interests and abilities.

Enrollment begins Feb. 8 and ends May 1. Parents are encouraged to enroll their children early because enrollment is based on space available and classes fill up quickly. Brochures and booklets will be posted on our Summer School web page on Feb. 13.

Classes begin May 29 and end June 28. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday only, with the exception of the first week which will be Tuesday through Friday due to the Memorial Day holiday.

Elementary (K-4) and Middle School (Grades 5-8): Summer school brochures and enrollment forms will be distributed to all elementary and middle school students at conferences, Feb. 8-9. The summer school information line is (913) 780-7245.

High School (Grades 9-12): The high school recovery credit program for ninth- through 12th-grade students is offered in two sessions at Frontier Trail Middle School. High school counselors can provide specific guidance for enrollment in credit or non-credit classes. Students may enroll in either session for a half credit, or both sessions for one unit of credit.

Driver's Education: Driver's education is offered in the summer at Olathe East, Olathe North and Olathe South high schools. Students must have turned 14 by Jan. 1, 2012 to apply for the summer program. Enrollment packets will be available at each middle and high school by Monday, March 26, and applications are due by Tuesday, April 17.

Weight Training (Grades 6–12): Weight training is a five-week program open to boys and girls in sixth through 12th grade. Registration forms and information will be available in late April or early May in the middle school offices and from the head football coaches.

eAcademy (online learning): Summer eAcademy will offer 13 courses for advanced placement students this summer. Counselors have informational fliers, and additional information is available on the eAcademy website (http://eacademyolathe.org).

Special Education: Eligibility for enrollment in the extended school year is individually determined by each student's IEP team. Contact your child's IEP case manager if you have questions about your child's eligibility.
